About Revy Rooms
What Revy Rooms is
Revy Rooms is a free housing board for Revelstoke, BC. People post rooms, whole places and sublets, and people looking for a place post profiles. Every place and person shows a match score based on how you like to live. It's free for everyone, with no fees and no ads.
Why it exists
My first season, I lived in a friend's basement in Arrow Heights. Then I moved out to Catherwood, out of town near the airport, with friends. For my second season I moved into a house in Southside.
Every one of those places came from getting talking to people and finding housemates through informal networking. If you're new to town, it can be tough: you either need local links, or you reach out to a lot of people and hope something works. That's why I built Revy Rooms.
How it works
- Post a place, or post that you're looking. It takes about two minutes. Post now
- Take the two-minute living-style quiz. Early riser or night owl, tidy or relaxed, guests, pets, smoking. Every place and person then shows how well you'd live together. Take the quiz
- Message people on the site. Phone numbers and emails are never shown. We email you when someone replies.
- Get new places by email. Set your filters on Places and tap Email me.
- Already posted on Facebook? Paste your post and the form fills itself in. Paste a post
Keeping it safe
- Only the neighbourhood is shown, never the address.
- "Looking for a place" profiles are only visible to signed-in members.
- Every listing and profile has a Report link. Reported posts are checked and removed if they break the terms.
- Never pay anything before you've seen the place in person or on a live video call. How to spot a rental scam.
Quick answers
Is Revy Rooms free?
Yes. Posting, browsing and messaging are free for renters and for landlords. There are no fees and no ads.
Who runs Revy Rooms?
Oscar Irvine, who spent two seasons living in Revelstoke and found every place he lived in through word of mouth. It's a non-commercial project, not a company or an agency.
Is Revy Rooms legit?
It's a small local board, and posts aren't checked before they go up, so take the same care as anywhere: see a place in person or on a live video call before you pay anything, and report anything that looks wrong. Phone numbers and addresses are never shown in public, and "looking for a place" profiles are only visible to signed-in members, which makes life harder for scammers.
How is it different from the Facebook housing groups?
Listings stay up until they're taken instead of getting buried, you can filter by price, move-in month and what's included, and every place and person shows how well you'd live together based on a two-minute quiz. Messages stay on the site, and you can get an email when a new place matching your search is posted.
Which towns does it cover?
Revy Rooms covers Revelstoke, BC. The same site also runs Squam Rooms for Squamish, BC.
